Hayley Brandon Some of it is transcendental, some of it’s just really dumb

Opening: Wednesday 18 March, 6-8pm Dates: 18 March – 4 April 2015

‘Some of it is transcendental, some of it’s just really dumb’ is an exhibition of new work by Hayley Brandon, developed from the journals, field recordings, conversations and brain chatter experienced while in residence in the United States. Approaching language as both a rigid and malleable material, the work considers how journaling may offer up a space to organise, unpack and make sense, and nonsense, from the everyday.

Hayley Brandon is an interdisciplinary artist based in Melbourne. In 2011 she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from the Queensland University of Technology. Hayley has exhibited nationally, including solo shows at Metro Arts(QLD), FELTspace (SA) and Propaganda Window(VIC), and with Pirrin Francis and Melissa Ryke as ‘Threefold’ at Brisbane Festival, Current Projects, Boxcopy (QLD)and Seventh Gallery(VIC). Hayley was a finalist in the 2013 Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards, is a recipient of Australia Council for the Arts ArtStart and New Work Early Career grants and was a 2014 artist in residence at The Wassaic Project, New York and Eastside International, Los Angeles. ‘This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.’
