Hannah Smith Slightly Odway

Opening: Wednesday 8 April, 6-8pm Dates: 8 – 25 April 2015

‘Slightly Odway’ presents a series of arrangements exploring musical equipment made redundant by their owners. Borrowing from Jebidiah’s 1997 album title, ‘Slightly Odway’ reflects upon awkward relationships of sentimentality within the intrinsic value of ownership and music materiality.

Hannah completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Queensland College of Arts in 2009, and completed the Master of Contemporary Art program at VCA in 2013. She has been shortlisted for the The 2013 Substation Contemporary Art Prize, (The Substation, Newport), The 2013 Luminescence Art Award, (Hotel Windsor) and is currently undertaking a three month residency program at The Walls Art Space in Queensland. Recent exhibitions include ‘Listen to This! Phasing Out’ (Kings ARI), ‘What Lies Beneath’ Substation, and ‘DUDPROJECT #1.1: Failure Works’,Dud Space. Exploring the intimacy of ambition, Smith investigates DIY ethics and performative methods through direct, immediate or propositional actions.
