Zan Wimberley In the End, at the Beginning

Opening: Wednesday 4 October, 6—8pm Dates: 4 – 28 October 2017

An exercise in contradiction, at once familiar and unfamiliar, beautiful yet devastating, ‘In the End, at the Beginning’ serves as reminder of the world within itself, a world that exists and functions beyond that which we interpret and give meaning to.

Zan Wimberley graduated from Scientific photography at RMIT in 2003, and completed a Masters at the Sydney College of the Arts in 2013. She works across photomedia to create works which negotiate the space between the heavy reality of death and the absurd or macabre nature with which it is often met in contemporary society. Wimberley’s work offers a thoughtful and poetic series of ruminations on the human condition.

Wimberley is an associated artist with Artereal Gallery, Sydney, and is a Gallery Artist with Fort Delta, Melbourne.
Recent exhibitions include ‘The Burnt’, Fort Delta (Melbourne, 2017), Spring 1883 art fair with Fort Delta (Sydney, 2017) ‘Contemporary Female Photo Artists’, Artereal (Sydney, 2017), ‘Who could bear to look up at the night sky and know which stars are already dead’, Artereal (Sydney 2016), ‘Still Life’, Firstdraft, Sydney, 2015. Zan has also been a finalist in the Blake prize (2016) and the Josephine Ulrich and Win Schubert photography prize (2015).

This work was developed in a Creative Spaces managed studio. Creative Spaces is a program of Arts Melbourne at the City of Melbourne.
