Jonas Ropponen, Emily Wright, Jo Stewart, Stacey Ryan Frou Frou

Opening: Tuesday 16 March, 6-8pm Dates: 16 March-3 April 2004

Jonas Ropponen is a Melbourne-based Australian artist making combine paintings, sculptures and prints. He often shows these together with confessional narratives. His bodily detritus (fingernail clippings, hair, blood and saliva) often features in his work in combination with pulped texts, found objects and pigment. He also makes work under alter egos. Sven Eriksson makes prints with densely packed figurative imagery of the natural world with a fantastical twist.

Stacey Ryan is a Fine Arts graduate with a background in Printmaking. Her work has been selected on behalf of the R.M.I.T Arts and Humanities Faculty at the Yuan- Ze University in Taiwan (1999); Selected for academic excellence by R.M.I.T National Honors Society (2000); Awarded the Residency Program at R.M.I.T School of Art & Design (2006); And included in the R.M.I.T publication A Guide To The Art and Architecture by Professor Margaret Gardner (2008).

Using Australian cultural forms and themes Ryan’s work draw parallels between craft practices such as embroidery with digital technology. I am interested in this idea of needlework “proceeding the computer age” and explore this concept using traditional printmaking techniques with current computer technology. In addition to working professionally in the Arts and the wider community, Ryan has had experience working in schools with children as an artist and parent volunteer in various roles. I have designed and developed both visual and written material, conducted teacher/student workshops in the areas of printmaking and costume design, led discussion on materials and equipment, coordinated a major art event which produces funds to support school resources as well collaborating with the musical director and teaching staff in developing the arts curriculum for the annual school musical as a set designer.
