Kiera Brew Kurec Archiving the Temporal: Emanate
Archiving the Temporal: Emanate is an intimate performance exploring the possibilities of preserving and archiving performance practice beyond photographic and video documentation. Using ritual as a framework for preservation, Archiving the Temporal: Emanate asks the audience to become custodians of the performance, then to pass on the performance beyond its original viewing and out into the wider community.

The performance will be accompanied by a series of online discussions which have been generously supported by the City of Yarra small project grants.
Kiera Brew Kurec’s practice is concerned with performance as a means for transformation through the agencies of time, endurance, environmental conditions and cultural practices. Her work includes live performance, performance for video, photography and sculpture.
In 2015 she graduated with a MFA from the VCA with first class honours. Her practice led research explored Performance, Ritual and Transformation, locating the history of contemporary performance practice in ancient ritual.
Brew Kurec’s practice is also concerned with the ethical, historical and current modes of the presentation and archiving of performance. In 2011/2012 she interned at Franklin Furnace, a leading institution in conservation and archiving of performance practice located in New York. In 2019 she returned to New York to undertake a research project observing current best practice techniques for archiving performance at MoMA archives, NYU Fales Special Collections, Franklin Furnace and the Asian Art Archive in America.
Brew Kurec has exhibited and performed extensively through Australia and internationally and is the recipient of multiple grants and awards.
She is also the co-creator of the Australian arts podcast Pro Prac.
