Exhibits,

Athena Thebus Angry Angels

Opening: Opening Wednesday 22 July, 6-8pm Dates: 22 July – 8 August 2015

‘Angry Angels’ is the first exhibition of new work by Athena Thebus since her year spent living in Los Angeles. The works attempt to address the effects of late capitalism by way of theintersecting political languages of queerness and Tumblr. Thebus’ work often draws equals between patheticism and ambition to outline the inescapable severity of the forces of advanced global capitalism; of the double-edged bind of ambition and optimism in the face of likely failure. This exhibition deals with how these concerns are absorbed, critiqued, and reimagined through online image-based communities.

Athena Thebus is currently based between Sydney and Los Angeles. She graduated a bachelor of Fine Art from the Queensland College of Art in 2012. In 2014 she undertook a studio residency at Eastside International Projects, Los Angeles and was a recipient of the ArtStart grant from theAustralia Council.
